Walking up the road, the gentle refreshing breeze slapped my face before brushing my ears and filling up my lungs. The sun was up, its heat pacified by the cool afternoon breeze. I allowed myself to drift to the journey of the year. Things done, undone, successes and failures. It seemed the year had run fast like a sunset that happened before one did much in a day.
The year was sliding off like a lump of butter on a heated knife. I had set plans and thankfully, a couple of them had been achieved. Some things were yet to be done like a cleared land waiting for the first rain before it can swallow seeds and give life to them. I was thankful. The goodness of God spread out like glittering stars later when I sat at the dining, writing and reflecting.
You may not have achieved all you set out to do. You may have even tried and things didn’t work out as expected. As much as we’re to allow gratitude dissolve in our hearts and surge into our veins, we should intentionally reflect on the events of the year. Sometimes, looking at things after helps us realise the points we missed things, could have done things better, could not have acted at all. This is the right time for this.
The new year hangs above us like a cloud of rain, ready to kiss the skies good-bye. Think through the year again, carefully and objectively. Ask yourself questions you have pushed under the carpet because of fears. A senior friend recently was asking me why I didn’t start up a relationship this year. It isn’t that she was mounting heated pressure on me. It was to be conscious of the reasons and make plans with these reasons in mind, after all, one keeps on preparing for relationship/marriage till it happens. Even in marriage, there’s still work.
Be grateful but restrategise and prayerfully get on your marks for the coming year. Someone said you can’t do things the same way and expect a different result.
This is the last episode of the year. Thank you friend for the ride with The Sage throughout the year. Thank you for reading, sharing, and commenting both here and to me directly. Certainly, the thought that you’ll read keeps me writing. I realise in the end, I’m writing for myself, too. Another delectable ride awaits us next year, let’s do this again. I will love to hear from you about how the ride has been through the year. Meanwhile I guess adulthood is a pure bliss, I was not bothered I didn’t get a haircut for my hair that’s more than a month on Christmas day.
